Kingdom Protista (Protists)

The Protist Kingdom has been called the "junk drawer" of the classification system. Things that scientists don't know where to fit otherwise get placed in the Protist Kingdom!  Most of the time Protists are:

  • single-celled
  • Eukaryotic (they have a nuclear membrane)
  • Some are "animal-like"- they move, and have to get their food
  • Others are "plant-like" - don't move and make their own food (photosynthesize)
  • Many are found in pond water

You will be looking at Protists this week while we study micro

Welcome New 7th Graders!!!

Rafting with my family...notice my son's face!  Big rapids coming up!

Hello 7th Graders!

I hope you are as ready for the new school year as I am!  It is going to be such an awesome year having your own laptop everyday in the classroom!

What a summer I've had!  I camped and played in Colorado where it was cool.  My family got a new dog named Summer.  I hung out with my kids while they golfed, played tennis, competed in swim meets, and played basketball.  I took several classes and taught a summer class.  I read a TON of books!  And, I went to Memphis, Tennessee to learn how to effectively use laptops in the classroom.  I'm ready for school to begin!

I would love to hear from you before school begins.  Take the short survey below to help me find out a little bit about you!  Enjoy these last few days.  I can't wait to meet all of you!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dokken :)
