Cell Models!

Here are a few of the 3-D Cell Models that were made for this week's assignment.  I was amazed at the creativity level!  I've never had anyone use Legos before!  I loved the creative use of recycled materials!  Woo Hoo!  (Forgive the wacky picture spacing...I'm still learning to use the layout features and they aren't perfect.)

Diffusion Lab

Ok, so today's lab was all about DIFFUSION.  The pink cube was supposed to represent a "cell".  The hydrochloric acid (HCl) represented food.  As the cell was "fed" it turned white.  As you saw in today's lab, not all the cell's got fed evenly.  The larger the cell, the less it was fed!  This has to do with the cell membrane's surface area to cell volume ratio.  We will discuss this in class on Thursday.  However, be thinking about it tonight :)

Diffusion and Osmosis Tutorial

Ok, So the projects that you video taped earlier today would not work on my computer tonight!  DARN!  I re-did the demo for you and it should be here now.  Sorry it is so late!  Enjoy!  Watch BOTH of the videos!  Don't worry, they are short! :)  (Yikes, don't I look lovely here?!)

Thinking about our Diets!

Yeah, It's not something middle schooler's like to consider, but it is important to eat healthy (at least sometimes)!  This week we learned how many calories we should eat, and evaluated what we actually ate.  It was an eye opening experience for some students!  Check out the Food Pyramid website for more information on healthy eating.
